Lora Colon - Nature Is My God

The love of nature is my religion,
Give me a sunrise of dazzling light,
I bow my head in admiration,
Once again, the sun conquers the night

When the wind gently ruffles the feathers
Of minstrels awakening at dawn,
Their gentle birdsong floats from the trees,
Soon, all my cares and worries are gone

A carpet of flowers beneath our feet,
Deeply inhaling the perfumed air,
Hand in hand my darling and I stroll,
He bends to pick violets for my hair

As the clouds drift, how their beauty distracts,
Those vapory denizens of the sky,
Lovers laying in the morning dew
Watch the parade as it floats on by

Fireflies in their chariots of light
Boldly announce the evening's return,
The moon dresses in her finest gown,
The sun recedes, dimming its lantern

Songs of crickets, wolves baying at the moon,
From the pond, frogs croak their opinion,
The roar of the ocean, rustling of leaves,
Over all this we have dominion

Tell me, what god is this that you still seek?
Remove the blinding veil from your eyes,
Marvels surround you, and yet you search
For the god your common sense denies
