Once I was an aquatic nymph
For long I hid myself under cover
None seemed to have spotted me
Not knowing, there existed another domain,
Of sunshine and of gentle breeze,
I confined myself in a nether world.
I don't know if I was happy myself then
Albeit, during my prolonged stay in water
Once I had an eerie sensation
And in my body happened a rare configuration
A pair of filmy wings sprouted on either side
That looked like thin strips of gossamer
They were so weightless for my body to bear
And on my head emerged a pair of bulging eyes
Perhaps a little incongruous for my tiny size
Feeling an insatiable urge to fly
Leaving the confines of that slushy pond
I rocketed myself into the far flung sky
Where I wandered proud and free
Like a little wisp of wonderment
It was indeed my second birth!
In my new found freedom,
I soared higher and still higher
Reeling round on iridescent wings
Hovering buoyant in mid air
I heard some children excitedly exclaim
'Dragonfly…. Dragonfly! Hurray! '
'Hush…! Don't scare it away
It might come and perch on our way
Let us chase it on this sunny day'
