Toshie Nohara - 'Moon Cakes' And Lanterns

2014-10-29 15 Dailymotion

When the moon is at it's roundest and brightest
Chinese celebrate this mid-Autumn festival
Children treat it more like a carnival
Lighting lanterns and playing with them
Singing and laughing and having fun
While adults young or old admire the moon
Womenfolk pray for good fortune!
And blessing from the moon 'Goddess! '

Some people just love eating 'moon cakes'
And others telling stories for their sake
They remember China's rebellion
Against the rulers of Mongol
When messages of the uprising
Were stuffed in sweet cakes
And lanterns were lit at the doorsteps
When the moon was fullest
Thus China was victories then

When the moon is up in the clear sky
An annual affair like moon watching
With people flocking to hilltops
Beaches and open spaces
Shows that tradition does not die
The old folks have gifts of 'moon cakes' to take
To friends to enjoy eating together
The young have excuses to date
Their loved ones for pleasure
The little ones have lanterns to play
On a moonlight night on festival day.
