We laughed nervously
when we watched that documentary on YouTube—
on All Hallows Eve—
about that biological female in London
who had some of her flesh
surgically removed from her forearm
so the doctors could create the semblance of a penis—
the sight of which made us cringe and gasp—
not because of our heterosexuality
or because of any intolerance,
but because it looked like a prop used in a Rob Zombie movie—
but after the smoke cleared,
and after the stitches were removed,
the "penis" looked like something purchased from Wal-Mart
or from a downtown sex shop in Salt Lake City—
yellow, rubbery, and without veins—
and certainly without blood—
or the life-giving fluid
to give it that "good-ol'-fashioned feeling"—
a documentary that prompted strange looks and strange conversations
