You know my life began in England
I was born in Isleworth
Whilst Mum and Dad were on Holiday
Mum decided to give birth
S
England is so far away,
From Alabama it's true,
Was born in Florence, after Thanksgiving,
Some 2 months after you.
J
Ooh that makes me 10 years older
The same as my brother Paul
He was born in Africa because
We moved there when I was small
S
JW Powell for elementary,
Forest Hills for middle school
Then to Bradshaw for the High one
Never had a swimming pool
J
Oh no! not in Africa
Most homes have a swimming pool
You have to, in that boiling heat
It’s the best way to stay cool
S
But Alabama is like Africa too,
Both start with an 'A' and their hot,
But I finally did escape from there,
And sorry, I am not.
J
We had a baboon called Yarpee
He was only nice to me
If my sister went too close to him
He’d bite and she would flee
Screaming to my mother
Who’d have to calm her tears
Yarpee died when war broke out
Which brought us all to tears.
S
Well all we had
Were dogs and cats,
One small rabbit too,
Some were fat,
And some were small,
Junie, Barney, Sherman too
How I loved them all.
J
While you played with your rabbit
I rode on my horse
Whilst you played with your dogs and cats
I was chasing cows of course
So although we grew up differently
So much alike are we
Two good friends bound together
In friendship and poetry
