I close my eyes and sense the smell of him.
He smelled of love and promise
and years of tender moments.
Slow dances barefoot on cool damp grass
under star-filled skies.
Me, on tiptoe just to put my arms
around his neck.
He bent low to circle 'round my waist.
Crickets and fireflies...
Nothing else mattered but that moment in time.
Now, alone
Years later,
I close my eyes and sense the smell of him
He smelled of love...
