While some believe they need a title
to make their poetry ignite,
I find the first line to be vital
in every wordsong that I write,
and once my thoughts have been composed
and I have harvested confusion,
I try to keep the sense enclosed
by rounding it with a conclusion.
The first line is what has to burst
before the miscellaneous
ideas emerge quite unrehearsed,
in spondee sport spontaneous
with sparks that all have been ignited,
don’t know how or when or where,
in grey matter that benighted
glows once it can inspire air.
