Do not think, because I said I loved you
All those times throughout the loving years,
That all the love I spoke to you was true,
Or that my love spoke all its heartfelt fears.
And do no think I didn’t give a damn,
All those times throughout the hateful days,
When I watched you play the sacrificial lamb
And turned my back upon your tearful ways.
For there are times when heart and thought conflict,
And, though the eye is dry, the innards run,
And there are times when lovers contradict;
They lend an arm to shade a kindly sun.
Don’t think these things, my often fickle friend,
But know we’re thick and thin until the end.
