For the greater good
We pause, fisted hammer
Short on the anvil
Stake this reputation
On the manufacture
On the creation
Of supposition –
Where there were oak
Tree forests, there’s
Now just us, not so
Full of life or yesterday’s
Idyllic dreams –
Pause me, pause away
This painful slice of time
Fast forward past the scene
Until the asphalt meets
The sea –
It comes in waves, washing
Over us, over consciousness
Tearing at our hearts
Our sacred hunger
Drawing on the light
Calling us
Down on the anvil
Down on the anvil
One modicum of grace
