I pause at daybreak
And utter prayers with sparrows,
I know there will later be
Encounters that require
Swords and sharp teeth,
Violence within turbulent shadows.
The mind is filled with gloom
When humanity becomes
So many dead numbers
That never add up
Or fit into an equation,
I’ve lost my fascination with romance
And can’t become half of a couple.
My heart is a pocketful of spare change,
The bank account of love is spent;
My arms are meaningless and helpless
In the realm of an embrace.
