Surprise Me!

David S Dennis - (79) Concert In the Park

Part time musos parkside showtime
Willing helpers hustle and
Laminated eyes lie open at the page
Where black ink code drops hints
And minds engage
And ink noise crotchets tumble out of trumpet bells
That’s the focus anyway

BLARRRRRRR tra BWERRRNNN
Tun... tun... tun... tun...

The power of the opening bars SHOCKS
This lazy sunny place and Shakes
And oscillations Pump and Blast
And claim me
Hold me
A helpless mass of resonating guts and bones

And then the saxophone …
God that soaring sax
It wails a line directly to my inner beast
And Christ I’m air born
Soaring high above the stage

My eyes compass takes a leap
Beyond the patchy clump of audience
Through air blue powder haze to
Cell camed family picnics
And ipod isolated
Double glazed indifferents

A five-a-side of cricket stops amazed
A frisby catcher baulked and missed
And dodged a power walker
Transcendent endorphined and absent
Who double takes and gets it

And skaters ka-lunk n rumble
Wide arcs down the pavement
And a juggler busker nearly drops it falling into time
The kids, the kids are jumping speechless
And the bandstand is the focus
Of every ear and every eye

And after that it was a long slow glide to earth
A long slow dancing glide

And I hug myself n hold my body dear n priceless
Music has my measure and ah God
I love music.
