My son was filled with panic
as he called me to his room.
His heart was full of sorrow
as his eyes were rimmed with doom.
He said ''Why did you do it? ''
and ''If not you, then who? ''
I looked at him and had to say
''I haven't got a clue! ''
He said his crab was missing...
it was not inside its cage.
If you had seen that kid right then
you'd see a face of rage!
He said ''That crab just couldn't fly! ''
''It couldn't lift the lid! ''
(I tried to search the cage myself
in the hopes that it just hid.)
To no avail, that crab was gone.
The cage sat very still.
I said ''You better look for it
or else our puppies will! ''
He looked for what seemed hours.
No sign of Mr. Crab.
He left no trail to follow...
no note in which to grab.
Late that night my son ran in
and with a look of dread
explained he found his crab...
it was under his bed!
He don't know how it got there.
He wonders what it did...
I laugh and see him block the cage
so it can't lift the lid.
