The bloodied grounds whisper out to the living
Wounded soldiers draped on the ground
Breathing in raspy tones, begging to the lord
A young girl walks around
Healing the sad and damaged
Long auburn hair gets caught in a leaf
She bends down to pick up an acorn
As winter comes; snow falls down
The war ends; lives return to normal
Calmness and solitude replace the screams and shots
Restoring the white fleece ground
Many years pass; lives recover
From that dark, haunting autumn
Everything heals but does not forget
That time years ago
An old withered woman walks to those grounds
Once bloody now covered with leaves in autumn once more
Drops to her knees and thanks the lord
Thanks for everything
She closes her eyes and stops her breath
Right there on those once bloody grounds
And an acorn falls from her shriveled hands
courtney tak
