Ernestine Northover - Gracing The Garden

Stone sundial, an age old keeper of time,
You stand forlorn.
Motionless, soundless, waiting for rime,
Lichened and worn.

Rain and snow beat down with force,
You remain aloof.
Never altering your stance, or course,
You are weatherproof.

So elegant, composed, calm and serene,
A restful form.
In sandy colours, camouflaged in green,
You endure the storm.

Gracing the garden, you're a joy to view,
An ancient clock,
Ticking silently away, the whole day through,
Carved style, baroque.

In your own stately way, you make me smile,
You rank supreme.
Your excellent etched face, a fine carved dial,
For each sunbeam.
