how often have I thought I knew what happiness was?
always in the future, just beyond my reach.
how many times have I arrived at my destination
to realize something is still wanting?
that what I have in my hand is not what I want after all.
and the bliss I was looking for must be postponed
until yet another milestone is reached.
each time I arrive at what should be making me happy,
I discover some blemish or disappointment has snatched away
my rightful bounty of contentment.
After so many years of feeling the victim,
I must (finally) look to myself for the answers.
wanting what I have vs having what I want.
