God,
if you exist?
I don’t respect you.
Punishing people
with fits of pique
I would be ashamed of.
I could never be very Religious
after being taught that.
But if we meet
at life’s end:
you standing there
with Judgement’s axe
weighing up whether to wield it,
I’ll put my case
that I spent my life
trying to be a good man
and that should really
be enough for you.
Heaven help me
if it isn’t.
