All of the words I want to say
Some other poet has said
In such a stupendously marvelous way
That they just cry out to be read.
So many beautiful poems
Express what I want to express;
For me to say it again
Would be mere presumptuousness.
My words would be a regression
In the light of their thorough address,
Yet my thoughts cry out for expression;
I'll just have to say them I guess
And hope that beside the great masters
My efforts will not be in vain,
And somewhere in the ages hereafter
Someone will read them again
And see the need though my prism
And somehow recognize why
Those words were torn from the bosom
Of one so unworthy as I.
