Then all the stars, that in their place
Have aeons roamed abroad,
Would long ago have lost the trace
Of orbits-if there be no God.
If there be no God,
Then justice in the heart of man
Would be a fake-a senseless fraud;
Each for himself alone would stand-
No honor-if there be no God.
