As soon as I lay my head down at night
Darkness swallows my mind
Into a land unknown
I see myself
Standing in darkness
There is no one around me
But wait!
What is that terrifying sound?
It's coming closer
And closer
I can hear steps
Pounding behind me
I'm trying to run
Working up such an effort
My legs are so heavy
Moving slow
Trying to run
Can't move
My legs
The noise is getting closer
I see a light up ahead
I run towards it
Eager to escape the fate that is coming up behind me
The light is getting farther and father away
I stumble backwards and the dark hole
Swallows me
I'm falling
Falling forever
Into eternity
I scream and awake with a start
I'm sitting in bed
My clothes sticking to me in sweat
I'm panting and my heart
Is racing
I lay down thinking
It was just a dream
Too afraid to sleep again
I lay there staring at my ceiling
In the dark
No
Not a dream
A nightmare
