I saw him yesterday
as he rode into the arena
on a big bay roping horse
His hat pulled forward just a tad
rope in his hand
He sat tall in the saddle
I could tell he was a very proud
man.
Women were adoring him with
each breath he took.
His horse backed into the chute
ready to work.
When the gate open the steer
came out strong
Old bay came out fast
The cowboy was ready with rope in hand.
steer was running as hard as he could,
Old bay stumbled and fell,
And laid very still.
The cowboy got up but old bay didnt move.
Tears came to the cowboys eyes
When he looked at old bay
He took off his hat and kneeled to pray
I heard him say
Lord,
Dont let old bay go this way
hes done his job well over the years
Tears fell from the cowboys eyes
as he continued an said
Hes been my best friend an compain to
Let me put him to pasture
To live out his life
He deserves much better than this
As he wiped the tears from his eyes
Then he started to trun when he heard
a big sign
Old bay stood up an went to his side
the cowboy loaded him up
Took him to his best pasture
And said youve been the best
i couldnt ask for anything better,
Then trun and walked away
Many years later
I still see old bay as i drive by
his pasture,
What i would give to be loved
liked that
