to take it down is
to mix your color to the hue of a horned devil's envy with
strokes so bold that even dark eyed bluesmen turn
their heads for a second glance with
words so raw to raise your mother's brow
removing all trace of pride
allowing your image to be as vulgar as your thoughts
letting your soul chips fall to the wayside
to clatter and spill
a few will spin and
cash in from the ground they will
sprout to grow roots deeper
than the challenges of authority
taking it down is a place with naughty thrills,
a dark corner of heaven where
churchgoers refuse to play until
they can slip inside a back door unnoticed
