Surprise Me!

Maria Rose Dominic - Silence

As the world of voice grows fainter,
Cheerful, merry laugh gets slower,
As music draws a veil about her,
Quite quietly silence gets closer.

The sound of silence ears can’t hear
The thrilled soul can feel it near.
The chanting of silence senses can’t grasp,
The enchanted mind can hear that harp.

Place your hands over your heart,
And feel it beat in rhythms apart.
Close your eyes and reach to the depths,
To enter the world where silence rests.

Silence saw the birth of worlds,
And calmly merged with sounds and words.
Melodies and noises maybe there,
But mighty silence still dwells in air.

Silence is the answer of a blushing love,
Before she gives her hand, like dove.
Silence of friend can pierce a heart,
And tear all warm feelings apart.

Silent may be a parent’s hand’
Yet it bears us on this land.
Silent may be a wordless hug,
Yet it comforts more than rug.

Silent are feelings, silent are glances,
Silent are sobs and silent are smiles,
Silent is a nod silent is a shake,
Silent is a shiver and silent is a shrug.

Where lies and quarrels fail miserably,
Silence wins truly and humbly.
She is filled with meanings deep
And speaks more than words in heap.

Silence too speaks in voice soft
And prods silently with great loft’
Even when language flourishes and perishes,
The ancient, silent language still exists.

Silence is not a battle cry,
Yet it moves depths great and high.
It is perhaps the loudest sound,
To which anything- everything’s bound.
