I fight upstream just to stay afloat
Agony and exhaustion come with each stroke.
Many times I find myself questioning
And the temptation to give up clearly beckoning.
The current continues in the opposite way
Teasing and mocking at why I would stay.
The waves increase and so does the wind
Trying to push me back to begin again.
My frustration and annoyance build inside,
Little progress has been made should I give up the fight?
How easy it could be to let go and fall
No more work for me, gravity will take care of it all.
Then I will seem weak and not brave
I worked too hard for this to all go to waste.
Remembering my goals for myself
And learning to play the hand I am dealt
Will be the reasons I continue to battle
And the blessing of it all will slowly unravel.
Nothing but greatness will come from this journey
Fighting temptations will prove I am worthy.
Worthy of everything this struggle holds
Worthy of the wisdom that inside I behold
So this current may want to take over me
But I will fight back courageously.
