There are rivers lost, forests lost and peoples lost, for man. This is one of such incidents. The river was dammed up unnecessarily to fatten public works contractors, in the name of building hydro-electricity project which produced no electricity, the forests were clear-felled for making room for that dam, and the people were evacuated because no one knew when that newly constructed dam would burst. Anyway, those scenes of innocence, simplicity and rural paganism in life were lost for ever, but they are still vivid and green in the mind of the poet. The Little Hut On The Edge Of The Forest- that is what is meant by the title Vanaseemayile Pulkkudil. The women and children- those forest-dwellers who assembled in front of their huts and sang heartful songs of joy in the evenings which went up to heavens while the poet walked through the edge of the forest after bathing in the river- are all gone now for ever. Those very huts from which kitchen smoke rose into serene evening skies lie ruined now, in the middle of burnt and desolate forest land. This poem was considered private and that was why it was not published ever. Whatever is depicted in this poem were real situations and incidents through which the author’s life went through. When it was penned down as a poem for private enjoyment, there was no anticipation of a dam. Now that the dam came up and the river, the forest and those beloved people are gone, this poem is published now as video, as a tribute, in fond remembrance of those brothers, sisters and little children. It must be remembered that the organization which unnecessarily dammed up a river, gulped down a beautiful and magnificent waterfall and dislocated generations-old human habitation for stealing a few hundred thousand rupees from public funds as corruption was, Kerala State Electricity Board.
