HONG KONG POLICE DISMANTLE PROTEST CAMPS
Amid ongoing pro-democracy demonstrations, the authorities in Hong Kong sent in police on Thursday December 11 to evacuate the main protest encampment erected in the Admiralty business district over two months ago. Witnesses at the scene have been sharing accounts online.
There are all manner of documents doing the rounds on social media attesting to the large volume of police deployed … (laisser vivre 2-3 secondes). The images, many of which have been posted under the #OccupyHK or #UmbrellaMovement hashtags, show police arresting countless demonstrators, demolishing camps and tearing down barricades erected by members of the protest movement.
And as we can see from these online shots, the authorities also called in hundreds of government workers to assist the evacuation. Dispatched to the Admiralty district with dump trucks to rapidly remove any trace of protesters …
The authorities were hoping to put an end to the pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong, but it appears they haven`t succeeded yet. These messages have been written on posters and walls around the former British colony by members of the movement, vowing to continue campaigning. Activists are also warning the powers that be, that they will return to the streets to make their voices heard, and they will fight for universal suffrage in Hong Kong.
