President Obama and his family arrived in Hawaii to begin their two-week long holiday vacation.

The first family touched down in Air Force One at Pearl Harbor late Friday night.

Obama was greeted by Admiral Samuel Locklear III, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Command.

The president was born and grew up in the state, and is expected to play golf and spend time with his family.

Before boarding Air Force One for Hawaii, the president gave a year-end news conference with a spring in his step, buoyed by a surge in U.S. economic growth and newly confident after having stymied his Republican critics with unilateral actions on immigration and Cuba.

Obama is expected to ring in the new year in Hawaii and return to Washington D.C. in the first week of January.
