'SNOWMAGEDDON 2015': WEB USERS BRACE FOR MASSIVE SNOW STORM
With the US authorities issuing a number of extreme weather warnings over the weekend, bracing citizens for the imminent arrival of a massive snowstorm along the east coast, residents from the states of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts were taking the alert very seriously. Most of them planning to stay safe and cosy at home until the blizzard passed and making sure they had everything they needed to see it through.
As we can from these photos taken and shared online by web users, hundreds rushed to supermarkets in the areas under threat to stock up on food supplies ahead of the snow storms. Long queues soon formed in front of the checkouts, meaning customers had to wait a while before returning to the warmth and safety of their homes.
And in view of this massive influx of shoppers, the store shelves soon emptied. This is what Twitter users have been saying, posting shots under the #Snowmageddon2015 hashtag showing certain aisles cleaned out. A lot of social networkers have complained that it`s now difficult to find eggs, milk and bread in supermarkets along the east coast.
And while a lot of Americans are preparing for the worst, some are commenting on the situation with humour and irony. These web users for example have imagined what places will look like once the snow storm has been and gone: surreal photomontages that resemble scenes from disaster movies and depict New York City for example as a vast sea of ice.
