The government of Guatemala has decided to lower the minimum wage established by labor law in four of the nation's municipalities. The decree fixed the minimum wage in these towns at 198 dollars per year, while in the rest of Guatemala the minimum wage is 350 dollars. Those affected state that they are not willing to work for less than the national legal minimum wage, because the high prices of basic food items will not be adjusted.
