A man identified only as ‘Nick’ is being praised and condemned in equal measure for holding a man at gunpoint in Salt lake City last week. Nick, who Fox News 13 reported is a retired cop who now works as a security guard in was reportedly in his car, tailing a suspected shoplifter last week, when he observed a young man was holding a knife in the direction of another young man who was sitting on a bicycle.
After Nick saw the knife-wielding man kick the bicycle and act in an aggressive manner, he pulled his car over and pulled out his handgun, forcing the man with the knife to the ground as he called the police. The other man on the bicycle fled the scene, and witnesses captured the incident in a video that’s gone viral.
It turns out that the man Nick held at gunpoint was attempting to take back his bicycle from a thief who had stolen it earlier. Cops later arrested the bike thief, but he was the only person arrested. The man with the knife was not charged and declined to press charges against Nick.
Cops said civilians should avoid getting involved in altercations, but Nick said he had the training and experience to handle the situation. What’s your call?
