American Airlines accident: Mechanic Dave Ostang fatally injured in fall from jet bridge

American Airlines mechanic Dave Ostang was fatally injured in a fall from a jet bridge Tuesday morning. The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at Terminal D of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

Ostang was working on a jet bridge near gate 30. A jet bridge, is used to transport passengers from the terminal gate to the aircraft.

Ostang was trying to lock the aircraft door when he fell between the jet bridge walkway and the Boeing 767. The mechanic was fatally injured by the 14-foot fall to the tarmac below.

He was transported to Baylor Regional Medical Center where he later succombed to his injuries. (Correction: The video mentions Ostang was 67 — Ostang was only 54 years old.) He had worked for American Airlines for 30 years.
