Traffic officers attempted to stop Yassir Ali as he drove a silver BMW 1 Series that was believed to have been stolen on Weoley Castle Road. The car pulled over and a passenger got out and attempted to obstruct the police car as Ali drove off at high speed. Officers pursued the car as the 29-year-old sped through red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road - narrowly missing oncoming traffic. The BMW eventually came to a stop on Bristol Road as Ali drove onto the pavement and got the car wedged between a bollard and the front of a shop. Ali, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and taken into custody following the pursuit on 22 February. Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on 30 March he was sentenced to 14 months behind bars.
