Sabzevar rugs are normally cotton based with a thin, tightly knotted wool pile. Similar to close lying Mashad in design but with a curvilinear pattern and rounded medallion, many of these rugs boast the Sabzevar flower detail which has both blue and red flowers on its branches.
It has strong red colours, with a tasseled edge.
The Knot used in Sabzavar was the symmetrical Turkish knot and in the old carpets the number of raj (number of knots in 7 centimeters) were between 30 to 35, however, today that number is between 25 to 35 fluctuate.
