The foreign members of the eleven-member Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) are meeting in Ecuador to prepare for a broader meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). The members of the regional block will be defining their goals for the CELAC 2020 Agenda. This Agenda seeks to reduce extreme poverty and inequality, provide greater support for science and technology, combat climate change and better protect the environment, improve infrastructure and movement between member states, and finance development projects. After meeting today, ALBA members will meet with CELAC tomorrow to continue defining strategies for meeting the group’s objectives and discuss the strengthening of cooperation with other countries and regional bodies.
