Social tensions are on the rise in the South American country of Peru, where President Ollanta Humala has betrayed his electoral commitments by pursuing foreign capital to invest in extractive industries. In the past two years alone, the government has implemented four separate sets of laws to make environmental and labor standards more flexible in favor of extractive industries.
