Hundreds of Gaza Strip residents took part in a rally Friday afternoon called by the Palestinian left, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, to commemorate Naksa Day. June 5 is an emblematic date on the Palestinian calendar, commemorating the 48th anniversary of the displacement that accompanied Israel's victory in the 1967 Six-Day War. As a result of the war, Israel took control of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Today's rally demanded the "right of return" for the displaced and ethnically cleansed Palestinians and for the UN to resolve the plight of those still living in refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.
