Asif Kapadia's tragic masterpiece 'Amy'

Asif Kapadia's documentary shows us the rise and fall of the British soul singer Amy Winehouse, who died of alcohol poisoning at 27. Like his previous study of doomed motor-racing star Ayrton Senna, there are no talking heads, only footage of chat shows, awards events and an extraordinary trove of private video.

Despite everyone knowing the ending, it's as gripping as a thriller. The filmmaker speaks to Eve Jackson about Amy Winehouse’s demise, convincing friends and family to trust him and whether anyone is to blame for what happened to her.
