Mexico: Punitive Teacher Evaluations Suspended in 3 States

2015-07-07 2 Dailymotion

Thousands of school teachers marched against Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto’s education “reforms” on Saturday. Controversial teacher evaluations were suspended last weekend in the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Michoacan due to continuous protests by dissident teachers, who say the evaluations are punitive and a giant step towards the privatization of education. They also charge that in the country’s poorest regions, teachers are not given adequate training, nor do they have the necessary supplies and facilities. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico for teleSUR.
