With a new round of Colombian peace talks underway, hopes are running high that progress will be made toward a final settlement of the armed conflict. The rebel's unilateral cease fire and the government's pledge to reciprocate by taking measures to deescalate the conflict, the advances in discussions on victims and transitional justice, and the new methodology of addressing pending issues in sub-commissions instead of negotiation rounds, indicate the process is moving ahead.
