Drinks Made Easy presents-How to Make a Black Velvet. The Poor Man's BlackVelvet or The Black Velvet is derived from "The Proper Black Velvet" which uses Champagne and Guiness. Because of the cost of champagne in the 19th century, it was impossible for many to have the proper version so they replaced it with a hard cider.
What you will need is the following:
1 can or bottle of Guiness Draught (make sure it is Guiness Draught)
1 bottle of Cider (your choice depending what you like)
A glass, of course (a tall one at that)
A Spoon larger enough to pour over.
Pour, what would appear to be 2/3 of a glass of the cider into your glass. We say "what appears to be 2/3.." because most glasses get wider as you approach the top. You can pour less if you like but it will make it difficult to get that separation needed. Try to get a good head on the the cider to aide in your Guiness pour.
