I love my CAKE TEES almost as much as I love making CAKES! This week I decided to combine the two and make THE ULTIMATE T-SHIRT CAKE! Both my cake and cake tee in this episode are inspired by the classic “I HEART NY” T-shirt. If you ever have the pleasure of visiting New York City you should definitely pick one up for yourself. It never goes out of style!
I decided to make the cake look like two tees stacked on top of one another, so, naturally I had to make TWO CAKES! I made one chocolate and one BANANA cake, layered them with buttercream, and covered them in white fondant. I then carefully carved out the letters and the heart from my custom stencil, made the cake tags out of GUMPASTE, and even added stitching to the collar!

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 eggs, at room temperature
4 overripe bananas (the skin should be bruised and blackened)
¾ cup buttermilk, at room temperature
2 ½ cups flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Fondant (white, black red)
Gum paste
TOOLS:
Electric or stand mixer
Mixing bowls
Rubber spatula
12" x 15" cake pan
