The first piece of wreckage from the first-ever lost Boeing 777, which vanished back in early March along with the 239 people on board, has been found.

The Malaysian Prime Minister announced the multinational team of experts assembled in Toulouse had identified the flaperon section of the wing. It washed up on the French island of Réunion in the Indian ocean last week.

Shortly after the French-led team said it was “extremely likely” the flaperon was from Malaysian airlines flight MH370, but confirmation was needed. Multinational investigators added a fragment of a suitcase found nearby also needed thorough analysis.

It left a trail of devastated mostly Chinese families behind it, controversy over the methods used to try to find the aircraft, and the resources made available for the search.
