In 2009 Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno was sentenced by a religious court to six (6) strokes of the cane for drinking beer in a leading hotel in Pahang.
The case attracted much interest but what shocked activist Norhayati Kaprawi was the intensity with which the Shariah court and even young Muslims wanted the the sentence be carried out.
