Pyjet luajnë një rol te rëndësishëm ne zhvillimin ekonomik te Shqipërisë, ndaj për Ministrinë e Mjedisit ato janë prioritet. Këtë argument ministre i mjedisit Fatmir Mediu e ka mbrojtur gjate konferencës se kombeve te bashkuara te zhvilluar ne Stamboll.
"Ne po ndërmarrim dhe po thellojmë reforma ne pylltari qe fokusohen: forcimi i kuadrit ligjor dhe institucional, duke siguruar përdorin tradicional te pyjeve për një periudhe te gjate, duke lidhur njerëzit me pyjet nëpërmjet procesit te transferimit dhe decentralizimit, thellimin e menaxhimit shume funksional te pyjeve duke harmonizuar aspektet ekonomike dhe sociale, forcimin e te mirave dhe shërbimeve për komunitetin lokal duke zbatuar sistem pagesash për shërbime ne ekosisteme etj." Gjate qëndrimit te tij ne Turqi, Mediu zhvilloi edhe takime me homologe te tij nga vende te ndryshme si dhe me kryeministrin turk Taip Rexhep Erdoan.
