Why are people defending this NHL player for hitting a ref?

Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman checks a ref on his way back to the bench. The shocking hit had many people angered, but some pointed out there may be a reason to come to his defense. Rachel Holt (@ItsRachelHolt) explains why.
