Question Asked Usually

Hi, I have recently bought 2 additional licenses for Quickbook Pro 2012. My computer is the first computer which installed Quickbook, so it is the Admin A/C. I am the system administrator. The other 2 computers has installed and set up quickbook as user A/C. All 3 computers are run on MS Window 7 professional. The problem is when I switch from multi-user mode to single user mode to perform some work and then afterward switch back to multi-user mode, the users can no longer access the company file of Quickbook in my computer. How do I fix this problem?

Did you install QB using the option that you will Use QB here and ALSO host a data file? You might not even have the database manager service installed at all. That means the Program is hosting. If you do not log into the file or launch your program, can the others still access the file anyway? If not, you do not have the database manager running and perhaps not even installed.

ANSWER

First, Multi-user is not the same as Remote. Multi-user is simultaneous access to a shared data file but each computer is running QB locally.
Second, I always recommend installing QB and QBDBMgr on the server. Launch QB on the server and get updates, routinely. Use it to open the data file(s) and set it to Host. Keep the database mgr service running all the time but close QB on the server and don't use it there, otherwise. If the first computer to open a data file creates the Hosting, this error condition is "floating host."
