Multi-user access stopped working.

I have a relatively new 2 user set-up (2014) which has been working fine for about two months, and has now stopped working in multi-user mode.
The company file is hosted on the main desktop PC, and the second user accesses it over a LAN from a laptop. I have two purchased copies of QB 2014 (both legitimate with licences).
The current situation is that I can access the company file individually from either the PC or the laptop, but not both at the same time. The desktop PC has multi-user access & hosting configured. The error message is "the file is in use by another user". This makes me think the files, the computers, the firewalls, the network and the file sharing permissions are fine, but there is an issue with the multi-user access.
Any suggestoins on the cause of this problem and how to fix it please?

Check Version of updates are the same on both PC's. Also, you cannot use the same QB section at the same time ie., Vendors entering data only from one PC. If they still don't talk to each PC then would from #1 PC that has the master QB file go to File - Utilities - rebuild and verify data after you do a back-up and have QB closed on #2 PC then reboot all and open QB to run as in the past. Hope this works.
