Comedian Aziz Ansari accused Donald Trump of creating a dangerous environment for American Muslims with his "vitriolic and hate-filled" campaign rhetoric.
"It's visceral, and scary, and it affects how people live, work and pray," Ansari wrote in a New York Times op-ed.
"It makes me afraid for my family."
The piece begins with a text message exchange between Ansari and his mother, in which he advises her to stay away from mosques in the aftermath of the Orlando shooting.
“As I sent that text,” writes Ansari, “I realised how awful it was to tell an American citizen to be careful about how she worshipped.”
Trump, who has proposed to ban Muslim immigrants from entering the US, "does nothing to address the real problems posed by terrorist attacks," Ansari stressed.
