Fifty Republican national security experts have written an open letter, warning that Donald Trump “would be the most reckless president” in US history.
The signatories, who include a former CIA director, said that none of them would vote for Trump.
Trump dismissed the statement, describing those who had signed the letter as “the failed Washington elite.”
In a speech on the economy in Detroit on Monday, the Republican presidential candidate set out his plans for sweeping tax breaks and a withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.
“Americanism, not globalism, will be our new credo. Our country will reach amazing new heights, maybe heights never attained before. All we have to do is stop relying on the tired voices of the past,” he told the audience.
Democratic rival Hillary Clinton warned Trump’s tax plans would only benefit large corporations.
“ Don’t be fooled,” she told a rally in Florida, “There is no other Donald Trump. What you see is what you get. He is still the same Donald Trump who makes his shirts and his ties overseas instead of in the United States. He is the same Donald Trump who refuses to pay his bills for small businesses and working people.”
