Both artificial grass and artificial clay are "soft" surfaces. As such, they are both easier on the joints than "hard" tarmac, which in contrast generally causes strain and eventual wear & tear on the joints. Both artificial grass and artificial clay use an artificial weave with distinctive modified sand infill, which gives both of these surfaces their soft comfort feel. Artificial grass generally has a faster pace and lower bounce (skidding with slice shots), while artificial class generally has a slower pace and higher bounce (with players able to slide to some extent into shots).
