Uber China is now its own separate app, meaning users of the global app will have to download a separate app when in China. Didi Chuxing, another car service app based in China, bought out Uber China this past summer. Uber China's separate app came after Didi rolled out an update that decoupled Uber from Uber China. Most users in China have updated to the new system, which requires a Chinese telephone number and a valid Chinese payment method, but anyone who travels to China will now find it difficult to use Uber's services.
